Gamma Zeta and TCU’s Greek history is inspiring! In 1954, throughout TCU’s 82-year history, no national organizations had existed on campus. In September, the Board of Trustees approved the organization of the first chapters, and a committee was appointed to decide which sororities and fraternities were to be petitioned. Kappa Delta was selected as one of eight sororities to inaugurate national sorority affiliation at Texas Christian University. Alumnae chapter members from Dallas and Denton, as well as national officers directed the sorority recruitment with 200 potential new members. KD reached the university-set quota of 21 with 19 new members and two transfers from our Zeta chapter at the University of Alabama. On February 16, Kappa Delta became the first sorority to host a social function on campus by hosting members of the other seven new TCU sororities at a dessert party. The Gamma Zeta Chapter of Kappa Delta Sorority was installed at Texas Christian University on April 16, 1955 at the Arlington Heights Methodist Church. However, the Kappa Delta chapter has been unfortunately closed since 1993. But 30 years later, Gamma Zeta reestablished at TCU in the fall of 2023! We're thankful for past Gamma Zeta's who paved the way at TCU, and we're excited to move forward to continue to foster an even greater and better Kappa Delta at TCU!
